Experienced, Qualified Maths Teacher
Degree in Pure Mathematics from Trinity College Dublin
In addition to being taught myself in secondary school by an inspirational maths teacher who currently writes text books for Leaving cert maths, I have followed his advice and completed a 4 year BA in Pure Maths in Trinity College Dublin, one of the most prestigious third level schools in Europe. I now bring this in depth knowledge of maths to my classrooms
to help democratise and simplify complex concepts.
Registered with the Teaching Council
I am registered with the Teaching Council of Ireland, the professional standards body for teaching in Ireland. The Council requires teachers to meet the necessary qualifications and uphold ethical and educational standards in their practice. My registration reflects my commitment to professionalism, continuous development, and providing a safe, high-quality learning environment for students.
Currently teaching in a post-primary school
I am currently teaching in a post-primary school, working with students across a range of year groups. As a result, this role keeps me closely aligned with the Junior and Leaving Certificate curriculum as they evolve, exam content, and marking schemes. Additionally, it allows me to bring real-time classroom experience and up-to-date teaching methods into my small group sessions.

What Our Customers Say
He was very exam focused and would take me through marking schemes and all previous exam papers (including mocks), setting and marking practice exams, making sure that you knew exactly how much time to spend on each question. This was great preparation for the exam, making sure that I was familiar with the wording of questions and capable of time management.
He was a patient teacher who would make sure you fully understood each topic before moving on. I highly recommend him.
Why Choose The Centre Of Mathematical Development
We have specific interests in mixed ability teaching, neuroscience and how the brain learns, and also psychology. Mixed ability teaching means teaching with little or no use of grouping students based on exam results. Over the past 10+ years we have been tailoring my teaching methodologies to maximise my students’ learning. This means, as well as improving in their maths skills, we try to encourage students to learn effective communication skills for concepts and problem solving, respect for their own learning and the learning of others, and effective study skills and exam tactics. We believe in a growth mindset in which all students have the ability to improve, gain confidence and progress as they develop, so all attainment levels will be catered for. Whether you are aiming to fine tune skills and targeting a top grade or your basic maths skills need to be addressed.
We believe small group learning naturally offers the ideal balance between
individual support and collaborative engagement. That’s why all maths tuition at the Centre for Mathematical Development is in-person only—no Zoom, no screens. This approach avoids one-to-one isolation, as students often learn more effectively when they can engage with their peers. To ensure every student receives quality attention, each class is kept small, which provides a structured and supportive environment with clear goals and consistent progress tracking. It’s common for many students to feel overwhelmed by maths, often being told it’s too difficult or that they simply need to “put in more effort.” However, with the right explanation and support, every student can improve. Ultimately, our aim is to build confidence in students while delivering real results.
Leaving Cert Maths in Tullow – What to Expect
Clear Breakdown Of Key Exam Topics
At our core, our maths tutoring focuses on breaking down key exam topics into manageable, easy-to-understand parts. To begin with, we help students build a strong foundation by explaining concepts clearly and step by step. As a result, this targeted approach boosts confidence and ensures they’re well-prepared for both Junior and Leaving Cert exams.
A Strong Grasp Of Problem-Solving Techniques
I place a strong emphasis on developing effective problem-solving techniques in my tutoring sessions. With focus on understanding the language and vocabulary of maths to help decipher problems, and building a ‘toolbox’ for each topic, students can feel confident in tackling tricky maths problems.
Regular Practice With Past Paper Questions
Regular practice with past paper questions forms a key part of our teaching approach. With past paper questions from every state exam and mock paper from both companies organised by topic for all classes and by year (LC only) students have topic focused exam material to hone their skills. Our own solutions are also provided for Leaving cert questions.
Safety and Strategy
We are always trying to improve as educators. As a result we are
constantly analysing and filing away the common pitfalls and traps that
students fall into. Through constant engagement with students we get an
insight into their approach to solving mathematical problems. We can advise on adjustments to strategy and the dangers to anticipate every step of the way.
Digital Resources
Over the past decade, I’ve developed our own set of Google Slides and presentations for each topic. These lessons start at common level or even primary level — which we consider the foundation — and gradually build up to Higher Level Leaving Cert material. All resources are available through Google Classroom at the touch of a button. This includes custom-made exam papers based on the topics mentioned above. As a result, unlike other grind schools that churn out endless printouts, our students can stay connected — with each other and with our resources — anytime, anywhere.
FAQ - The Centre For Mathematical Development
Why Choose Our Leaving Cert Maths Grinds in Tullow Over Others?
At the Centre for Mathematical Development, we focus on small group, in-person tuition rather than one-on-one sessions or online teaching. This deliberate choice creates an interactive and collaborative environment where students receive focused attention while also benefiting from learning alongside their peers. In addition, with more than 10 years of teaching experience and a well-structured approach, we tailor our classes to meet the unique needs of each student. As a result, we aim to build a deeper understanding of the material and, ultimately, the confidence needed to succeed in exams.
Will my child still receive individual attention, even in a small group setting?
Yes! We deliberately keep class sizes small so that each student gets the attention they need. At the same time, the group environment fosters collaborative learning, allowing students to engage with one another and reinforce their understanding. Moreover, we monitor every student’s progress closely, and regular progress tracking ensures they receive the right level of support. In addition, I’m present at every class, offering individual feedback to help each student improve. Consequently, each student benefits from a tailored approach that supports their growth both individually and as part of the group.
How can I tell if my child is ready to begin Leaving Cert or Junior Cert maths tuition?
If your child is preparing for the Leaving Cert (Higher or Ordinary level) or the Junior Cert, they will benefit greatly from our tailored approach. Mathematics is a scaffolding subject. This means that if students do not have a solid understanding of the basics then it makes it difficult to progress. The current education system encourages grouping of students and with maths classes per week decreasing in numbers many students get ‘left behind’, ‘fall through the cracks’, or are told in reports the need to ‘work harder’. We aim to fix the foundations to ensure all students can progress.
How do I enroll or check availability for classes?
To enroll or inquire about availability, simply fill out the contact form, and I will get in touch with you shortly. Once you complete your registration, you can easily book your preferred class slot online. Therefore, don’t wait—reserve your spot today to ensure your child starts without delay!
Do you offer online classes or materials?
No, all tuition takes place in person to foster a focused, distraction-free environment. However, to complement the in-class experience, I provide digital resources through Google Classroom. These materials include interactive content, practice exercises, and past exam questions, thereby giving students the flexibility to review lessons and reinforce their learning at home. In this way, they benefit from both structured classroom instruction and the convenience of accessible support outside of class.
