Leaving Cert Maths Tuition

Our in-person small-group classes are carefully structured around the Leaving Cert curriculum to ensure students are fully prepared for their exams. To begin with, senior classes focus on building strong Algebra skills, which are usually followed by Coordinate Geometry. Then, classes split by year group to target exam-specific topics. Additionally, we consult regularly with students to tailor revision to their preferred topics.

Here’s a rough guide to the topics covered, although these may change: TY and 5th & 6th years focus on Algebra and Coordinate Geometry of the Line. Fifth-year students cover more advanced coordinates, Probability, Statistics, Trigonometry, and Functions. Sixth-year students study Trigonometry, Calculus, Sequences & Series, Financial Maths, and Geometry. Moreover, students receive advice on evidence-based study techniques to reduce exam anxiety and promote long-term learning success.

Junior Cert Maths Support

Foundation is key! We provide essential maths support for students from 2nd Year to set them up for success in the Junior Cert. To start with, Junior Cert classes focus on core foundational skills. Then, we split classes by year group to tailor lessons to exam-specific topics. While we cannot guarantee covering topics on demand—since schools approach the curriculum differently—we always cater to the majority of students attending the classes.

Here’s a rough guide to the topics covered; however, these may change depending on class needs. To begin with, 2nd and 3rd years focus on Algebra and Number revision. Furthermore, second-year students dive deeper into Algebra (including factorising and quadratics), Functions, Probability, Sets, Statistics, and Financial Maths. Moreover, third-year students tackle more advanced material such as harder Algebra and Numbers, Coordinate Geometry, Trigonometry, Patterns & Sequences, Geometry, Area, and Volume. Additionally, we teach evidence-based study techniques to help reduce exam anxiety and promote long-term learning. Ultimately, this approach ensures that students build confidence and prepare effectively for the challenges of later years.

Revision and Preparation Classes

Over school holidays and breaks we aim to run revision classes for those who missed
foundational topics, like Algebra. Students from TY may wish to attend to get a feel for leaving cert material.

Exam Preparation Classes

As the Leaving Cert and Junior Cert exams approach, we therefore offer specialised exam preparation classes to help students maximise their performance. Moreover, these classes are specifically designed to focus on:

  • Exam Strategy: Understanding how to approach different types of questions

  • Time Management: Learning to work efficiently under exam conditions

  • Past Paper Practice: Engaging in real-time practice with exam-style questions from state exams and mocks

  • Mistakes to Avoid: Receiving tips on common pitfalls and guidance on how to tackle challenging questions

In addition, these classes provide students with a concentrated and targeted way to refresh their knowledge. Consequently, they help build exam confidence and, ultimately, enable students to perform their best on the big day.

Digital Classroom Access (Google Classroom)

At the Centre for Mathematical Development, we do not believe in an endless stream of printouts. Instead, all students enrolled with us are granted access to our Google Classroom platform, where they can easily find everything they need.

Through Google Classroom, students can:

  • Review material with links to further support, including in-depth slides and presentations developed by us over the past decade

  • Practice past exam questions and exercises, and access our step-by-step solutions (Leaving Certificate only)

  • Stay up to date with important class announcements

  • Communicate and collaborate with peers on challenging topics

Moreover, this digital resource is available to all of our students and, as a result, it complements our in-person lessons extremely well. Ultimately, it provides the flexibility needed to reinforce what is taught in class.

Study Skills

Study Skills and Confidence Building

Maths anxiety is real, and many students find themselves struggling with more than just the subject matter itself. Therefore, we offer additional support to help build your child’s confidence and strengthen their study skills.

Through our study skills program, students learn to:

  • Manage their time effectively

  • Develop problem-solving strategies

  • Overcome maths anxiety and build a positive mindset towards exams

  • Establish a balanced and sustainable study routine

As a result, this service helps students feel more at ease with their studies, and it ultimately improves their overall approach to learning.

Parent & Teacher Collaboration

We understand that communication with parents is key to student success. Therefore, we provide regular updates on student progress to ensure parents remain fully informed. Additionally, we offer a parent information meeting to outline what is available to students and to explain the expectations that help them maximise their progress.

Furthermore, we provide an optional presentation for parents on How the Brain Learns. This session is designed to help families create the ideal learning environment at home, and it also gives parents practical strategies they can implement straight away.

Moreover, parents receive ongoing guidance on how they can support their child’s learning outside of class. In addition, we share regular updates, useful information, and engaging mathematical tips and tricks through our social media channels. By working together, we can therefore ensure that each student receives the best possible support and ultimately reaches their full potential.

I got grinds from Alan from transition year to sixth year. He is great at communicating mathematical concepts in understandable ways and making notes on each topic for you to follow.

He was very exam focused and would take me through marking schemes and all previous exam papers (including mocks), setting and marking practice exams, making sure that you knew exactly how much time to spend on each question. This was great preparation for the exam, making sure that I was familiar with the wording of questions and capable of time management.
He was a patient teacher who would make sure you fully understood each topic before moving on. I highly recommend him.
